Chair,
Federal Tort Liability & Military Advocacy Section |
It is with great pleasure that I take over as chair of the Federal
Tort Liability and Military Advocacy Section. Thanks to the hard
work of our Sections leadership, and in particular that
of outgoing Chair Howard Richman, the Section membership have
available to them more resources than ever that will aid in their
federal tort and military practice.
The past year has been a busy and successful one for this Section.
With another year behind us, there is much to report. Howard Richman
along with past Section chairs, Ira Leesfield and Michael Archuleta,
developed the Federal Torts Litigation Group. While AAJ has the
Birth Trauma Litigation Group, the Medical Negligence Information
Group, the Breast Cancer Litigation Group, to list a few, our
Section and the newly created Litigation Group will provide AAJ
members with the unique and valuable information needed to successfully
pursue a federal tort claim.
With the two groups working closely together to expand resources
for members, our Section will continue to grow in stature, importance,
and membership. I encourage all Section members to join the Litigation
Group and contribute to its growth. And as the saying goes, bring
a friend.
The Section leadership also compiled a litigation packet for federal
tort practitioners. Available through the AAJ Exchange, it is
a comprehensive packet that I hope will continue to grow and be
updated so as to provide a benefit to Section members and non-Section
members alike for years to come. See page 8 for more information.
Finally, I am pleased to announce that the federal tort claim
retreat that was held last spring in Key West among past and present
leadership can now be referred to as the First Annual Federal
Tort Claim Retreat. The Michael Archuleta Law Firm will
host the Second Annual Retreat for the Section leaders in Austin,
Texas in spring 2007.
The Key West retreat served as a catalyst for great ideas in a
great environment and we hope to duplicate that success in Austin.
If you would like to become more involved in the Section, please
contact me at JAlsaffar@GovtClaim.com
or call AAJ Sections at 800-424-2725, ext. 290.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your chair. With your help,
we will continue moving forward.
