National Campaign Launched to Protect Consumers Against Corporate Abuse
Apr 12 This spring, more than two dozen public interest groups launched a national campaign to protect consumers from corporations abusive use of binding mandatory arbitration (BMA) clauses. These clauses force unsuspecting consumers like Helen Etting to give up their right to go to court should a dispute arise.
Part of the coalition's 10-point plan includes a call for state and federal legislation that will end use of BMA clauses and provide a level playing field for consumers.
Senator Patrick Leahy, ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said that binding mandatory arbitration ... is an abuse that is quickly spreading, and its time to blow the whistle and start giving consumers a break. Full Newsletter
