AAJ's Exchange provides litigation support services to AAJ plaintiff lawyers, including access to thousands of depositions, pleadings, and other court documents, and attorney contact information on similar matters. The Exchange also serves as a secure electronic document repository for AAJ's Sections, Litigation Groups, and, now, the New Lawyers Division.

The Value of the Exchange for New Lawyers

Former NLD Chairperson Jeffrey Padwa knows the value of the AAJ Exchange, a networking AAJ service. It's a substantial settlement for his client.

When a garage door came off the track, Jeff's client attempted to fix it. What his client did not know was that the garage door contained a hidden spring and high-tension cord mechanism that when released became a dangerous projectile. While working on the door, the spring was released shattering his client's face and one of his eyes.

Jeff searched the Exchange and discovered three lawyers with cases against the same garage door manufacturer. When Jeff contacted these lawyers, one of them told him about a patent application filed by the manufacturer which acknowledged the hidden danger.

The patent application proved to be the smoking gun, describing that numerous people around the country had suffered severe facial injuries when the hidden spring and high-tension cord were unknowingly released.

The manufacturer had failed to post warnings of the hidden danger on the door and failed to issue any post-sale warnings as well.

Armed with the patent application which he found by using the AAJ Exchange Jeff mediated the case and negotiated a substantial settlement for his client.
